While it’s always a treat to go to the winter boat shows and see all the latest models, the real fun for me is checking out the newest outboard engines. Whether it’s an advanced, sleek electric for the tender, or a rack of huge outboards spread across the transom of a big offshore boat, there’s just something about power that appeals to my inner geek.
In that respect, the 2026 shows did not disappoint, with virtually all the big builders offering something new, whether it was a fresh engine or slick new controls. Here’s just a sample of what’s on its way to the dealership right now.
High Power
Mercury might have made the biggest splash—figuratively and literally—when it lifted the cover off its concept 808 horsepower outboard. Why 808, and not an even 800 horsepower?
