Most emergency training in flares only allows practice in letting off the more simple flares. I was intrigued to read that this week a British sailor whose trimaran had become swamped and his navigation system inoperable accidentally set his own life jacket on fire when he let off flares in thick fog. He had to remove the life jacket increasing his vulnerability dramatically.
Registration is now open for the 71st running of the Pacific Northwest’s major annual sailing event, the Swiftsure International Yacht Race. It was a Sunday afternoon just over a week ago when 13-year-old Sarah Grace Tellifero was enjoying the last days of summer with three friends, swimming near a boathouse on a local lake. Sadly, when Sarah went to grab a boarding ladder on a pontoon boat to climb out of the water, she was electrocuted. A 17-year old was also shocked but survived. Tensas Parish Sheriff Ricky Jones told reporters that the accident looked as if it had been caused by a boat lift that had shorted out and electrified the pontoon boat’s ladder. Other swimmers in the same area had previously reported feeling a tingling sensation when jumping into the water.

A six month option-to-lease has been signed for the causeway level of the Steamship Terminal, with Greater Victoria Harbour Authority (GVHA). The parties are keen to settle arrangements that would see the Maritime Museum celebrate a grand re-opening in 2015.

The Pursuit S 268 Sport centre console is a do-it-all kind of boat with a solid sense of style. Centre console designs have been developed for the southern blue water sport fishing enthusiasts (and this boat would raise fish with the best of them) but the Pursuit S 268 Sport centre console offers far more utility and enjoyment than just fishing.
Ron and Pat Reder started out in October 1984 across the road from where they are right now on the Bayfield River in Bayfield ON. The store front was about 10 x 20 and the rest of that side of the building was a stock room, wood finishing room, then behind that was more back stock and the lunchroom. Expanding every few years for the store front, then moving over to this new building five years ago, this year with Adam, Shelley, and Holly are carrying on the business.
