Do You Need a Change?

Driving north on 69, I realized it’s been an unusual summer on many fronts. As a result, the combination of commitments, unpredictable weather has played considerable havoc with my balance.  I find I spend a lot of time escaping to my boat but not going out on the water – the weather won’t cooperate or guests flake or…whatever.  Is that still boating?

But last weekend I got out of my routine and headed north. I had clearly been under a rock. Port Severn, Parry Sound, Big Chute, Point au Baril, Britt. A lunch of local whitefish then on to Bruce Mines and St Joe’s Island – Hilton Beach, Richards Landing. Next, the Soo and the canal and locks. Boats everywhere. Marinas and flocks of people having a ball.

I’m spend a considerable amount of time on boats (dream job) but always close to home and most usually in an urban boating environment.  You can lose your sense of our immense landscape. It’s easy to consider the many spots just names on a map. That’s like flying by in a  space capsule. There is a country full of magnificent scenes.

A visit to some of Canada’s other stunning boat venues is really uplifting.  I should definitely do it more often and perhaps you should too! Now, back to the city and racing this evening.  Oh yes – on Lake ONTARIO.
