The Commodore leads the way for 2017 sailing season!!!

Happy New Year Hollyburn Sailing Club Members.

Commodore Mike Bretner was the first sailing boat out on the water for the 2017 Sailing Season.

A warm welcome to the racers who braved the post snowpoclypse to come to the club for the annual January 1st race.

The Hollyburn Sailing Club has been an integral part of the West Vancouver waterfront for over thirty years, and is conveniently located next to Ambleside Park in West Vancouver. Hollyburn Sailing Club, a dream of a few dedicated people in the spring of 1963, became a reality in June of the same year. Doug Sutherland and Roy Holland met at that time with a group of interested parents to form a dinghy sailing club with the main objective of training North Shore children seamanship. With the blessing of the District of West Vancouver and the West Vancouver Parks and Recreation Commission, it was arranged that Hollyburn Sailing Club could store dinghies on 100 feet of foreshore next to Ambleside Boat Rental. In October of that year, the Club acquired its first “clubhouse”, an old garage. It was renovated, beautified, and served the club for seven years. Over the years, the Club has undergone many changes. New club houses, a permanent ramp, its own fleet of training vessels, and an increased property for boat storage to a name just a few. Though the Club has experienced these and other changes over the course of its life, the basic principle on which the Club was founded remains today.

Training
Every summer, Hollyburn Sailing Club offers sailing courses that are taught by Sail Canada Certified Instructors in a fun, engaging, safe, and relaxing atmosphere. We offer programs to Juniors aged 10 and up and Adults. These programs run from May to September of each year, with individual courses ranging from several days to two full weeks. All of our multi-day programs guide students through skillsets and curricula that lead to nationally accredited certification. In partnership with BC Sailing Association we also offer a Optimist Sailing School for children aged 6 – 10.

Co-op
The Hollyburn Sailing Club Co-op program promotes sailing, kayaking, stand-up paddleboard and other watersports by allowing members to use a variety of watercraft. The Co-op owns a number of communal sailboats, kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, a windsurfer and a rowboat available for the exclusive use of co-op members.

More Information
Co-op members must be 18 years of age or older to use the club’s boats. Junior Co-op members between the ages of 15 and 18 may use the Co-op sail boats if they have completed CanSail 4 Sail Canada sailing lessons. They may not go out on the water alone and should buddy up — either in two single handed boats or two sailors on a single boat. Their sailing ability must have been approved by one of the club designated check-out personnel.
Co-op members must satisfy the HSC Co-op Captain of their sailing/paddling proficiency before being permitted to use the club’s boats and designated check-out people are available to help with this process.

Co-op membership fees pay for boat storage, purchase and maintenance. The fleet is user-maintained and labour is on a voluntary basis. Most boat maintenance takes place during the Hollyburn Sailing Club Spring and Fall clean-up days.

Bayfield Marine Turns 40 with Big April Events

Ron and Pat Reder started out in October 1984 across the road from where they are right now on the Bayfield River in Bayfield ON. The store front was about 10 x 20 and the rest of that side of the building was a stock room, wood finishing room, then behind that was more back stock and the lunchroom. Expanding every few years for the store front, then moving over to this new building five years ago, this year with Adam, Shelley, and Holly are carrying on the business.
