Atlantis WeatherGear to Sponsor the 2013 NYYC Invitational Cup

Atlantis Weather Gear

Atlantis WeatherGear, the American sailing apparel brand designed by sailors for sailors, today announced that they have renewed their sponsorship of the biennial New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup presented by Rolex.  The event, hosted by the NYYC at their Harbour Court facility in Newport, RI beginning September 7th, 2013, is slated to include teams representing 20 of the finest yacht clubs from 13 different countries.

First sailed in 2009, the Invitational Cup was conceived by the NYYC in 2007 as a competition between “Corinthian” (amateur) teams representing high-profile yacht clubs from around the world.  The theme was to revive the spirit of amateur yachting both locally and abroad while bringing together the organizations that have been instrumental in the establishment and growth of the sport over the past two centuries.

“We’re excited to be a part of this event,” offered Atlantis’s CEO Chaz Bertrand. “Corinthian sailing is not only emblematic of the coastal lifestyle for which our gear is designed, but it’s also, in our humble opinion, critical to the future of the sport.  The New York Yacht Club recognizes this, and they’ve created what has quickly become the pre-eminent global event for amateur sailing.”

In addition to the defending champions Royal Canadian Yacht Club and hosts New York Yacht Club, the event includes three other teams from North American clubs.  These three teams qualified for the event by finishing atop the U.S. Qualifying Series for the Invitational Cup, a regatta among 24 U.S.-based clubs held by NYYC in September 2012.  This year’s NYYC Invitational Cup is expected to attract hundreds of sailors and supporters to Newport next month and as such, it represents an unparalleled global branding opportunity for Atlantis.

“We are pleased to have Atlantis WeatherGear return as the  apparel partner for the 3rd Edition of the NYYC Invitational Cup,” said Event Chair Paul Zabetakis.  “Many participants have relied on Atlantis gear over the years, and we look forward to using their new product line of high-quality performance apparel again this year.”

The Atlantis 2013 product line is available online and at a variety of dealers around the country including official event partner Team One Newport and A&C Outfitter.  NYYC Invitational Cup logo gear is available on-site during the regatta, online via the event website http://invitationalcup.org and in-store at A&C Outfitter on Bowen’s Wharf.

New Boats: Beneteau Oceanis 34.1 – A Sleek, Good -Looking Delight To Sail

By Katherine Stone

There is nothing more that I enjoy than being with friends and messing about in boats. Messing about in brand-new boats on a champagne sailing day on Lake Ontario at the beginning of the summer doesn’t get any better. To have the new owner, Helmuth Strobel and Anchor Yachts dealer Pancho Jimenez aboard made it even more special, as they can also speak to what they truly enjoy about the boat. We keep our own boat in a harbour that has a long waiting list for boats over 35 feet, so this little gem would definitely fit the bill and feels like a much bigger boat. True to the spirit of the 7th generation Oceanis line, the 34.1 is built in Poland and replaces the 35.1. It is 1,000 lbs lighter, 14 cm narrower and has 29% more sail area.
