Ryan Reynolds/Northstar defeats Hugh Jackman in SailGP

September 10, 2026

“In Canada making fun of Hugh Jackman is a national pastime,” says Reynolds

Ahead of the Spain Sail Grand Prix last weekend, Hollywood heavyweights Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman settled their rivalry the only way they could: racing each other aboard SailGP’s high-speed F50 catamarans.

The Deadpool vs. Wolverine showdown came just ahead of the SailGP event in Valencia, where the pair – co-owners of Australia’s Bonds Flying Roos SailGP Team – will cheer on their team, which is sitting first in the SailGP standings and all but assured of a place in November’s Rolex SailGP Championship Grand Final in Abu Dhabi.

The pair went head-to-head on the water before the weekend’s main event, with Ryan winning the race aboard Canada’s NorthStar F50 against Hugh, who was aboard the Australia Bonds Flying Roos F50. They wore custom Deadpool and Wolverine helmets for the race.

In the Spain Sail GP main Canada didn’t fare quite as well, finishing tenth.

One could be forgiven for assuming this valley was purpose-built for nautical fun, with a few delightful perks thrown in to make the area entirely irresistible (wine-tasting, anyone?).
