The final day of Atlantic Canada’s premier keelboat regatta concluded last weekend with varied wind conditions delivering a challenge to competitors and a big reward to top finishers.
“Chester Race Week delivered highly competitive racing across a wide range of conditions. The wind was constantly evolving in both strength and direction, putting a premium on tactical decision-making, boat handling and the ability to adapt quickly. With strong, deep fleets across the race courses, there were very few easy gains; every position had to be earned. The level of competition throughout the week was outstanding and a real testament to the calibre of sailors who come to race in Chester,” commented Dan Conrod, On-Water Chair, Chester Race Week.
About Atlantic Yacht Sales Chester Race Week
Hosted by the Chester Yacht Club in the picturesque South-Shore Nova Scotia village of Chester in mid-August each year, Atlantic Yacht Sales Chester Race Week is Canada’s largest keelboat regatta and and this year welcomed 137 boats including 32 Bluenose one-design competitors.
Named one of Sailing World magazine’s greatest sailing events in North America, 1,300-plus sailors descend on Nova Scotia’s scenic Mahone Bay to compete in one of 15 fleets racing simultaneously on five different race courses. Our fleets accommodate everyone from offshore big boats and one-designs, to classic wooden boats, club racers and no-spinnaker cruising boats.
Chester’s sailing regattas were first documented in 1856 and, since then, tourists and locals have taken in the natural beauty of the area by both land and sea. A community-based, volunteer-driven event, Atlantic Yacht Sales Chester Race Week boasts a full schedule of public-friendly events with live music, great food, yacht races, plus racing seminars from internationally renowned sailors, tacticians, boat builders and sailmakers. This is a Bronze-certified Clean Regatta since 2016.
