I Miss My Boat

Peace on Earth is the message of the season but it appears somewhat out of reach these days, particularly this week which has been particularly brutal on the news front.  The whole year has been pretty unwatchable, but this past few days – OMG!

This may be worse than normal but there’s always something nasty going on in the news and typically the way I deal with it is to hide from the world on the boat. On the boat, I can leave the tv off so the news won’t find me with the horrible regularity that we are currently enduring.  Plus, there’s always someone around to talk small. On Wednesdays, there’s racing. On the weekends a cruise or an event or something else distracting.

Winter, sadly, puts the kibosh on all that with saddening results. The boat is buried under its tarp and the bay is nearly frozen. The good news is that the holidays are upon us with family, friends and some happy distractions.

I am confident you share both these thoughts: missing boating and looking forward to holiday fun. So please enjoy that aspect of the season. Eat a lot, enjoy some Chapmans ice cream and go down and hug your boat.

I’ve been to Tahiti seven times—six on charter and once as crew for a couple of yachties. Over the 25 years that I’ve been visiting, it’s changed dramatically. Yet, inexplicably, it has also stayed the same.
