Written in Partnership with Furuno: Furuno NXT Radar With Target Analyzer™  Enhances Collision Avoidance

October 23, 2025

Furuno’s NXT Radar marks a new generation in Marine Radar technology, delivering the sharp performance of solid-state design and the intelligence of advanced Doppler processing. At the heart of these systems lies Target Analyzer™, a powerful tool that turns complex Radar data into clear, instantly understandable information and helping mariners make confident decisions, even in challenging conditions.

Anyone who’s used Radar knows the classic display can be a wall of echoes, each one demanding interpretation. Target Analyzer cuts through that clutter with colour-coded clarity. Using Doppler technology, NXT Radar determines instantly whether targets are moving toward or away from your vessel. Stationary objects like buoys, docks, and shorelines appear in green, while anything moving toward you at a speed of 3 knots or greater is displayed in red. The result? Potential collision hazards stand out immediately, no guesswork required.

This simple color shift can make a world of difference. In fog, at night, or in heavy rain (NXT Radar has a fantastic Rain Mode, by the way), Target Analyzer gives captains the awareness they need to react quickly and safely. A quick glance at the display shows whether that nearby vessel is crossing your path, heading straight for you, or simply passing astern. It’s an intuitive visual cue that makes Radar interpretation faster, easier, and far less stressful.

Because the NXT series uses a Solid-State transmitter instead of a traditional magnetron, Doppler detection remains consistent and reliable, with no mechanical tuning or warm-up time.

Target Analyzer also works together with Furuno’s Fast Target Tracking, automatically locking onto moving echoes to calculate their speed, course, and closest point of approach. Together, they provide a complete, uncluttered picture of nearby activity, giving mariners all the information they need without overwhelming the screen.

Whether navigating a crowded harbor or cruising open waters, Target Analyzer enhances both safety and situational awareness, allowing professional and recreational mariners alike to navigate with greater confidence and control.

Spotted! Canadian Boating in Antigua & Barbuda

By Mathew Channer

I wore my Canadian Boating cap everywhere I went in Antigua, for the sun, not for the shout-outs. But I sure received a lot of them.

Antigua Sailing Week is an international regatta that draws sailors of every level and spectators from all over the world. Yet I couldn’t walk across a room without being hailed by a Canadian who was as excited to see my cap as they were to see the racing. I met many who were on their 3rd, 4th and 5th visit.
