Written in Partnership with FLIR Maritime: New and Improved Alpha Performance Displays from Raymarine

Alpha Performance Instruements

Nov 7, 2024

The award-winning Alpha Performance Display by Raymarine is getting a free upgrade that adds valuable new features with the release of the Alpha 3.0 software update. Packed with helpful tools such as new visualizations and autopilot integration, boaters now get even more from their Alpha displays with an easy-to-install update.

Alpha Performance Display Autopilot Controls

Alpha’s large and responsive touch-screen interface now has full support for Raymarine Evolution autopilots. Autopilot controls support all major autopilot operating modes, including Steer to Heading, Navigation Mode, and Steer to Wind Angle. In Navigation Mode, a 3D presentation shows the boat in relation to the plotted route with visual cross-track error guides and turn point information. Navigation Mode also includes Dodge controls and Resume Route controls that allow users to maneuver quickly around unexpected obstacles then return to a plotted course. With Steering to Wind Angle, Alpha gives sailors the choice of steering to true-wind angle, apparent-wind angle, or steering to the boat’s Polar for maximum performance.

In addition to Evolution autopilot controls, Alpha provides visualization of a boat’s navigation, environmental and systems data with customizable digital displays, analogue gauges, histograms and much more. It also supports networked video sources like FLIR thermal and Raymarine visible cameras.

Available in 7- and 9-inch, high-visibility, tactical touchscreen instruments, Alpha offers a fully customizable dashboard and graphic displays to help boaters make smarter decisions. Designed for helm, companionway or mast mounting in portrait or landscape orientation, the Alpha Series is controlled and customized via touchscreen or remotely from a Raymarine Axiom chartplotter and only requires a single cable for data and power.

Spotted! Canadian Boating in Antigua & Barbuda

By Mathew Channer

I wore my Canadian Boating cap everywhere I went in Antigua, for the sun, not for the shout-outs. But I sure received a lot of them.

Antigua Sailing Week is an international regatta that draws sailors of every level and spectators from all over the world. Yet I couldn’t walk across a room without being hailed by a Canadian who was as excited to see my cap as they were to see the racing. I met many who were on their 3rd, 4th and 5th visit.
