2.4mR Pre-Worlds win to Helena Lucas

Sailor Helena Lucas of Great Britain took the win in the 2011 U.S. 2.4mR Class Association Pre-Worlds over Paul Tingley of Canada and Bruce Miller who tied for second place.

Tingley, who led the regatta on the strength of two wins on Day One, managed only two eighth-place finishes, one a throw-out, on Saturday. Millar posted two –fifths Saturday to catch Tingley after starting the day three points back.

Megan Pascoe of Great Britain raced her way into fourth with a second and third and Holland’s Andre Rademaker, the runner-up to fellow countryman Thierry Schmitter in the 2011 IFDS Worlds in Weymouth in July, clawed into the top five after taking third in the first race of day three. Schmitter cracked the top ten with a sixth-place finish (plus a 15th that he dropped) to wind up ninth.

Nineteen sailors from eight countries participated in the regatta, which was organized by the U.S. 2.4mR Class Association and Charlotte Harbor Yacht Club.

What does Ashbridge's Bay Yacht Club in Toronto have in common with the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club, Nepean Sailing Club, Britannia Yacht Club and Kelowna Yacht Club? Each has done a fabulous job of hosting the annual CYA Women's National Keelboat Championship. Saturday morning finally comes; I have been rolling and tossing all night with much anticipation for the annual Solmar Lake Ontario 300 race. I kiss my family goodbye and head for the club. However, as I near the entrance, I gasp at my first sight of the lake; actually, I gasped because I couldn't even see the lake. Thick fog just sat there; not even a whisper of wind to push it out of the way. As a member of the organizing committee, I start to panic.

Its been no vacation for our Paralympic Sailors this weekend. All three fleets have completed a 6 of 11 races already.  The event started on Saturday and they now have three days of racing completed with three more to go. 2.4M – Our Gold Medalist for Beijing – Paul Tingley – has shown some flashes of brilliance but has really been having a tough event.  His is sitting in 5th overall with 5 races to go.  With 30 points, he is only 10 points out of 3rd but it will not be an easy margin to make up.  So far his finishes have been 6, 7, 2, 10,9, and 6.

Bayfield Marine Turns 40 with Big April Events

Ron and Pat Reder started out in October 1984 across the road from where they are right now on the Bayfield River in Bayfield ON. The store front was about 10 x 20 and the rest of that side of the building was a stock room, wood finishing room, then behind that was more back stock and the lunchroom. Expanding every few years for the store front, then moving over to this new building five years ago, this year with Adam, Shelley, and Holly are carrying on the business.
