It’s the season of fun!! Last week, the people at Mimico Cruising Club who buy into that concept in a big way held a highly summery, highly festive party to prove it.

Mimico is an intriguing club located in the booming west side of Toronto. Its membership is a good representation of the entire Canadian boating community with lots of powerboats, a whole row of hot racing sailboats and another 200 or so multi-purpose boats that are both actively cruised and regularly used as floating cottage docks to entertain friends and family. MMC also has strong contingent of social members who love the place. As far as I could tell, when they invited me to the kickoff soiree for the increasingly popular Race to Kingston (R2K) that the club organizes, everyone comes to enjoy the occasion regardless of stripe.

R2K is a great party but the excuse is a sail race from Mimico to Kingston. That’s a long course and one that needs to be taken seriously so the agenda includes safety and weather briefings for the participants while the non-racers hold down the giant lawn for music, chat, and a refreshment or two. While this is going on at Mimico, similar events are taking place across the country. Sponsors jump aboard like Goslings, the Bermuda rum distiller that also sponsors Chester Race Week, the biggest boat party in the Maritimes and events on the Left Coast as well.

I am neither a member of the club nor a participant in the event but I sure had a good time. I tucked it away to remember during the winter ahead. In the meantime, there’s still a lot more season ahead. Enjoy!

Centre console designs have been developed for the southern blue water sport fishing enthusiasts (and this boat would raise fish with the best of them) but the Pursuit S 268 Sport centre console offers far more utility and enjoyment than just fishing.

Ron and Pat Reder started out in October 1984 across the road from where they are right now on the Bayfield River in Bayfield ON. The store front was about 10 x 20 and the rest of that side of the building was a stock room, wood finishing room, then behind that was more back stock and the lunchroom. Expanding every few years for the store front, then moving over to this new building five years ago, this year with Adam, Shelley, and Holly are carrying on the business.
