Gord knows historical vessels

Hello friends,

The wreck on the shore near the restaurant near Jordan showed in POTW last issue is not a ‘piece of history’. It may have had a useful career as a ferry and other commercial work, but it’s dressing as a so-called sailing ship was never more than completely fanciful.

It never represented any real functional ship in either size nor appearance, particularly not anything afloat in Jacques Cartier’s time.

It was a publicity stunt for the restaurant it lays near, and never anything more than that.

Lounging on the flybridge of our Sunsail 454, I had time to think about this dichotomy as I toasted the nighttime skies of Bora Bora and specifically the Southern Cross, a constellation that never fails to hypnotize. As the Crosby, Stills & Nash (1982) tune reminds us:

…you understand now why you came this way.
