New York opens limited marine facilities
Apr 23, 2020
Marinas in New York state can open on a limited basis, State Governor Andrew Cuomo announced in a statement on Saturday night. Cuomo said marinas can “open for personal use as long as strict social distancing and sanitization protocols are followed.” The statement was not explicit, but appears to clear the way for boating season to begin. Cuomo made the announcement in concert with the governors of New Jersey and Connecticut.
Previously, Empire State Development had determined marinas to be non-essential, and had to remain closed during the COVID-19 crisis.
Cuomo’s statement also said marina restaurants must be limited to take-out or delivery only.

Don Finkle, well known friend of Canadians and operator of seven RCR Lake Ontario facilities in New York and on and Lake Erie in Pennsylvania and Ohio tells CYOB “We have been tracking a moving target here as we do business in NY, PA, OH and Ontario primarily and the rules for what we can and can’t do are not only different from place to place, they have been changing. Our sales and office staff are all working remotely and service teams are working where they are permitted to do so. We are following the safe practice protocols emphasizing social distancing, masks, etc. We expect more changes in the days ahead.”
