Mill Bay Marine Group have been making changes and upgrades to their marinas in Sidney and on Pender Island. With the improvements come new annual moorage opportunities. Port Browning and Port Sidney are two of the most popular Gulf Island cruising destinations. Now, with enhanced infrastructure, the marinas are providing even more reasons for owners to keep their boats in these spectacular locations.

Pender Island’s Port Browning Marina Resort has at least two phases of marina improvements planned. Already complete is the installation of concrete wave attenuators. This offers improved wave protection — both in size and strength — and ensures year-round protection within the marina. In addition the main docks have been replaced. Throughout Port Browning Marina visitors will now find modern, safe and stable walking platforms. 

Of increasing concern for boaters is sufficient power to docks for their vessels’ needs. It was a priority to upgrade the power grid, and now work is complete with each slip having a minimum of 30 amps and some with 50 amps. Also, improvements have been made to the on-dock fire protection and the WiFi system.

Phase two of the development plan will increase dock space, creating additional moorage. There are also plans for a fuel dock.

The enhancements to the marina complement the improvements previously made to the Port Browning Marina Pub and Bridgemans Bistro. New this year to the bistro space is the addition of the Kraken Theatre offering weekly movies out of the bistro.

“We have been operating the bistro space as an à la carte Bistro service as well as a private group booking space that caters to local groups, wedding guests and large moorage groups” explains Duane Shaw, President of the Mill Bay Marine Group. “Adding in the theatre has brought a unique and fun addition to the property.”

At the Port Sidney Marina, upgrades and improvements have been happening over the past two years following the Marina’s purchase by Mill Bay Marine Group in June 2016. “There were many things that were operating ok, but not to the standard we wanted,” says Shaw. “We have worked on most aspects of the infrastructure, including improvements to the water, power and WiFi systems. We’ve also replaced most of the washers and dryers, we have new computer systems, barbeques, safety lighting, purchased a golf cart to help transport guests and the list goes on.”

Both Port Browning Marina Resort and Port Sidney Marina have annual moorage currently available. Bayfield Marine Turns 40 with Big April Events

Ron and Pat Reder started out in October 1984 across the road from where they are right now on the Bayfield River in Bayfield ON. The store front was about 10 x 20 and the rest of that side of the building was a stock room, wood finishing room, then behind that was more back stock and the lunchroom. Expanding every few years for the store front, then moving over to this new building five years ago, this year with Adam, Shelley, and Holly are carrying on the business.
