CYOB backstage: Meridian

Meridian

Sept 26, 2019

Here’s what she looks like today, attached.

Here is just one of the interesting inquiries that come into the CYOB Inbox.

Hello John,

In 1984, you published an article about the boat that I now own — Meridian, a 70-foot sloop built on Bainbridge Island. I bought her from the original owner in 2012.

There is a beautiful photo of her original drawings in your 1984 article. I was wondering if you might have a hi-res version of that photo that you’d be willing to share.

The online version of the article is here.

Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,

Glenn Bonci

Hi Glenn,

Unfortunately, with the age of the issue requested, and the magazine changing hands over the years, I have no idea where the originals files could be from 35 years ago.
The best I can do, is send you the highest resolution scan of the page that I can, as all we have now are archived issues of the magazine dating back that far; please see attached.
My only other suggestion would be to try getting in touch with Steve Killing himself, to see if he still has any of the originals drawings from his Design articles published in Canadian Yachting.

Good luck in your search!

Hello Elissa,

You are so kind to go out of your way to help with this! I appreciate it very much.

It’s fun just having this scan. I’ll see if I can get in touch with Steve Killing to see what he might have to say.

Here’s what she looks like today, attached.

Thanks again!

Glenn

Up to this point, I feel that most electric boats have not been very exciting. The motors have been mainly small portable models for dinghies. There are some high-horsepower motors available, but they look like regular outboard motors to be used on conventional boats. Until now, there hasn’t been an electric boat that really makes a statement. Enter the ENVGO NV1.

Canada’s Superior: the North Shore

Story and photos by Jennifer M. Smith

We’d been north before on a short two-week cruise. At the time, we were unprepared for the isolation, the lack of cell phone coverage, and the spotty VHF reception. Since then we’ve repowered, installed Starlink, and retired from work. Now, with confidence in our engine and our connectivity and more time to sail, we were Superior-ready.
