One of the few marine operations in Toronto’s east, The Rigging Shoppe is a 1,000 square foot store supply store for power and sail that is family owned and operated.

Opened by Bruce Burgess in 1969. Bruce and spouse Shirley operated the business until 1998 and now spend their time near Kingston, Ontario.

The Rigging Shoppe has occupied several places in Scarborough, but since 1993 resides at 44 Midwest Road, just off the west side of Midland Avenue, north of Lawrence Avenue.

In 1989, with many summers of part-time work, their daughter, Carolyn Burgess began working full-time at the shop.

A silent auction benefiting the Princess Margaret Cancer Center and a contest for a $500 Rigging Shoppe gift certificate were held and in-store deals were featured for long-time loyal customers who came to share the celebration.
