“Confused with Carp” ID and Reporting

Do you know how to identify the four Asian carps and some of the species that often get confused with them? Join us for an overview of how to tell native fish apart from Asian carps, and how to report Asian carps if you do find one. Brook Schryer, Aquatic Invasive Species Outreach Liaison with the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters, will teach you about the main identification features of Asian carps and the species that get confused with carp! He will also walk you through how to report any invasive species using the Invading Species Hotline and EDDMapS Ontario.

Brook Schryer is the Aquatic Invasive Species Outreach Liaison with the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH) and their Invading Species Awareness Program (ISAP). Some of his responsibilities in his role include: Asian Carp reports, the development of Asian Carp resources, boater outreach, waterfowl hunter outreach, as well as working with the invading species hotline and EDDMapS Ontario. He recently graduated from Trent University in Peterborough, ON with a Master’s degree in Sustainability Studies where he focused his studies on the ethics and sustainability of hunting in Ontario.

On my first day as a commercially registered yacht captain, I sailed a Fontaine Pajot 38 catamaran from mainland Australia across the Whitsunday Passage to the western shores of the world-famous Whitsunday islands.
