Race for Fun, Race for Kids in the National Bank Easter Seals Charity Regatta

Easter Seals Regatta 2013

Now’s the time to register as a skipper or a boat sponsor in the 2013 National Bank Easter Seals Charity Regatta Saturday, July 13 at Royal Vancouver YC Jericho. The most fun you’ll have in sailboat racing all season, the regatta supports an important cause: Easter Seals House, which provides a home away from home for children and families who need to visit Vancouver Children’s Hospital for medical care.

Skippers and boat sponsors who sign on now qualify for extra prizes and incentives.

Hosted by Royal Van for more than two decades, the regatta is a PHRF handicap event with flying and no-flying sails (cruisers) divisions. Canadian Yachting West magazine is a media sponsor of this year’s regatta. This year marks the return of the post-race False Creek boat parade. The parade theme is pirates and crews are judged for prizes on their costumes, boat decorations and spirit. The day wraps up with a shoreside barbecue and beverage garden, with live music and a silent auction. Skippers and crews can also recruit their favourite licensed establishments to compete for bragging rights and the “Pub Cup” in the inaugural “First in Bar” race. Pubs compete to see which establishment can raise the most in support of Easter Seals House. Pub-sponsored boats will be scored separately as well as overall in the regatta.

Registration is $100 or requires a minimum $250 boat sponsorship; sponsorship levels also include $500, $1,000 and $1,500. Registered skippers and those who recruit their own boat sponsors will receive a Stormtech sailing bag valued at $75.

Ron and Pat Reder started out in October 1984 across the road from where they are right now on the Bayfield River in Bayfield ON. The store front was about 10 x 20 and the rest of that side of the building was a stock room, wood finishing room, then behind that was more back stock and the lunchroom. Expanding every few years for the store front, then moving over to this new building five years ago, this year with Adam, Shelley, and Holly are carrying on the business.
