Leading Sailing Accessories Manufacturer Expands Lifestyle and Sport Performance Sunglasses Range

Ocean Racing®, a leading manufacturer of waterproof sailing luggage and accessories, announced today three additions to its line of lifestyle and sport performance sunglasses – the Newport, Biscayne and Mackinaw. Each new style has purpose-designed features for sailors to stand up to the unique viewing challenges at sea. Ocean Racing’s sunglasses offer stylish, high performance protection with the same quality and durability as popular premium eyewear brands, at a lower retail price. By circumventing traditional channels and engaging with customers directly through its website, Ocean Racing allows sailors to bypass high priced optical shops and provides higher-quality, better-looking performance sunglasses at a fraction of the price.

The new Newport, Biscayne, and Mackinaw sunglasses join Ocean Racing’s popular Transpac, Fastnet, Bermuda and Hobart models to ensure there’s a style for every boater. The Biscayne has a large sport wrap design with polarized polycarbonate lenses that employ a hydrophobic coating to slough off saltwater and 4mm holes in the temple tips for lanyard use. The Newport has a stylish unisex TR90 nylon frame design that fits most faces well along with polarized lenses that block 99% of harmful UV rays. Offering sailors reading lenses for those who require a greater range of vision, the Mackinaw has a +2 reader on the bottom lenses and a unisex hard top design.
Each style will standup to the tough environmental demands of sailing as well as power boating, kayaking, jet skiing, stand-up paddleboards, or barbecuing and just enjoying the beach.

“Ocean Racing sunglasses have the style, quality and polarized lens technology of higher cost name brands,” said Ed Kriese, president, Ocean Racing. “In fact, they are manufactured in the same factories. The difference is Ocean Racing’s direct to consumer, online distribution model that allows us to provide our customers stylish, quality sunglasses at a much lower cost. Sailors can wear our performance sunglasses on the water and focus on their on-the-water objectives, rather than worrying about their glasses while saving their expensive brand name pair for parties at the yacht club afterwards.”

Sailing into the Future at Antigua Sailing Week

By Mathew Channer

“Standby tack,” Canadian sailor Katy Campbell orders. The crew scrambles over the sheet lines and braces on the deck.

“Three, two, one, tack!”

I wait until the bow turns into the wind and the headsail snaps over, then crawl over the cabin top of Panacea X to the now windward side. The trim team smoothly sheets on the headsail and a competitor vessel shoots past our stern, feet away, as our Solana 45 beats eastward along Antigua’s south coast.
