As we have reported, Severn II, a historic 8-Metre racing boat was involved in a collision during a recent race on Lake Ontario. The boat sank almost immediately – fortunately no-one was injured.

As we reported, Severn II subsequently has been raised from the lake bottom and is currently in Thornbury at Gyles Sails & Marine where she will be restored.

While the initial damage will be repaired, a subsequent injury in the rudder area, reportedly from the landing on the lake bottom, will also be repaired.

CBC coverage followed the boat’s salvage operations:

One could be forgiven for assuming this valley was purpose-built for nautical fun, with a few delightful perks thrown in to make the area entirely irresistible (wine-tasting, anyone?).
