Kingston Celebrates 50th Anniversary of Hosting Sailing at Montreal 1976 Games

July 23, 2026

This year, 2026, marks the 50th anniversary of the 1976 Olympic Games hosted in Montreal, Quebec. The majority of the ‘76 games took place in Montreal, with the sailing events being held in Kingston, Ontario at Portsmouth’s Olympic Harbour.

Portsmouth Olympic Harbour, was originally constructed in 1969 and refurbished in 1974 for the ’76 Olympic Sailing events. Kingston was selected for the sailing events due to its proximity to Montreal and the optimal sailing and spectating conditions of the harbour.
