Port Credit Yacht Club to Host 1,000 Youth in Major International Regatta Series

Port Credit Yacht Club (PCYC), home to one of Canada’s largest youth sailing programs, will host more than 1,000 youth sailors (ages 8–22) from Canada and the United States across three major competitive regattas taking place July 15–26.
These events represent one of the largest annual gatherings of youth competitive sailing in Canada and will showcase emerging talent, including sailors with potential future pathways to Pan American and Olympic competition.

Together, these two events will bring 700+ sailors competing on multiple race courses on Lake Ontario. Racing will be managed by experienced officials, including Olympic and Pan Am-level Principal Race Officer David Sprague, supported by regional and international race officials and over 150 volunteers from across GTA yacht clubs.

This championship represents the highest level of competitive Club 420 sailing in North America, bringing together approximately 360 sailors aboard 180 boats from Canada and the United States. Over four days of racing, teams will compete for the title of North American Champion in one of the most important youth sailing classes on the continent.

The C420 class is the leading double-handed youth sailing class in North America, widely used in high-performance junior programs It serves as a key development pathway into collegiate sailing, national teams, and international competition. For many competitors, this championship represents a defining step in their development, and for some, an introduction to elite-level international racing environments including Pan American and Olympic-level sailing campaigns.
A Landmark Event for PCYC
Hosting the North Americans for the first time is a significant milestone for Port Credit Yacht Club.
This positions PCYC as a major North American hub for youth sailing excellence, with sailors, coaches, and families arriving from across the continent. Many American and Canadian sailors will be participating in the preceding Steerers’ Invitation and Four Sisters Open, creating a competitive eight-day continuous stretch of high-performance youth racing on Lake Ontario off the waters of Port Credit Yacht Club.
