CDN SailGP Savours NYC Podium Finish – Prepare For Halifax Next Week

June 11, 2026

After a difficult start to the 2026 Season the Canadians delivered one of their strongest performances of the year on the Hudson River, securing third place and injecting fresh momentum into their campaign.

Driver Giles Scott  Scott said the result was reward for a team that has remained committed to steady improvement despite a challenging opening stretch.

“We’ve been a bit of a broken record over the beginning of this season,” the two-time Olympic gold medalist said.

“We’ve been saying the same thing: we’ve got to keep our heads screwed on and keep moving forward, one race at a time.”

Prior to New York, the Canadian outfit hadn’t been seen in a Final since last season’s San Francisco Sail Grand Prix – some 14 months ago.

Scott said they have the opportunity to turn a long-awaited podium into the launchpad for a stronger second half of the season.

“It’s great to be back on the podium,” he said. “It’s been a long time coming. We’ve not had the best start to the season, but it’s nice to put together a good Grand Prix. Hopefully we can use that as a platform to push on from here.”

The result could prove significant for NorthStar as the championship enters a crucial phase.

While New York provided a welcome haul of points, moving them one place up the 2026 Season leaderboard into ninth, Scott knows stronger performances will be needed if the team is to climb further over the remaining seven Grands Prix.

“The points are certainly needed,” he said. “We need to string together some really good results. Hopefully we can build on this and step forward again.”

The timing of the podium could hardly be better, with SailGP’s return to Halifax now on the horizon. NorthStar Canada will once again race in front of a passionate home crowd, with Scott eager to return to a venue that holds special memories.

“Halifax last time around was amazing,” he said. “The city really comes out for everything, and it’ll be nice to be the focus of that for sure.”

If you’ve already had firsthand experience with a pontoon, you will easily understand the appeal of the Bennington 22 MSB. But if you haven’t, let’s start by reviewing a few of the reasons why pontoon boats have become top sellers in markets across North America.

Pontoon boats began in the early 1950s as basically four steel drums lashed to a frame. They were not unlike the log rafts of ancient cultures and not much more sophisticated at first.

The Best of Two Worlds

By Mathew Channer

Interior British Columbia might not be as famous for recreational boating as Canada’s Great Lakes, yet it is no less a world-class boating destination. The mountains offer their own flavour of marine adventure with their series of long, deep ribbon lakes, and there is perhaps no area that embodies this more uniquely than the iconic Okanagan basin in southern B.C. One could be forgiven for assuming this valley was purpose-built for nautical fun, with a few delightful perks thrown in to make the area entirely irresistible (wine-tasting, anyone?).
