If you’ve dreamed of reliving the days of elegant boating on sun-dappled blue waters, this may be your chance. “People don’t realize how wonderful the ride is in these classic designs,” says the owner of ‘Moonlight.’ Boating in his 14’ Hacker-Craft on Lake Rosseau has become a favourite family activity.

“No one asks to ride in the fibreglass boats,” he says. “But everyone wants to ride in ‘Moonlight.’ “
On the storied waters of Lake Joseph and Lake Rosseau, wooden boats remain a defining part of Muskoka’s heritage. This summer, the West Parry Sound Health Centre Foundation brings that heritage together with purpose through the Classic Boat Tour & Auction + VIP JazzAge Reception.

Your experience begins with an online auction running from May 14th to May 28th . Approximately 25 curated packages will be available, each featuring a unique vintage boat experience hosted by the owner. Each auction tour package offers something distinct, whether it is a deeper look into the lake’s history or a relaxed cruise that highlights the special ambience of these beautifully cared-for boats.
The Classic Boat Tour Day for lucky auction winners is July 25th. You’ll meet your host for the day and board your boat at one of the participating marinas on Lake Joseph or Lake Rosseau.
The number of guests winning bidders can bring along will depend on the size of the boat; you can bid on particular boat packages based on the size of your party. It will be a special experience for people who love classic boats and want to spend a July afternoon enjoying Lake Joseph or Lake Rosseau. (Maybe a great gift for Father’s Day?)
As the afternoon unfolds, you and your guests will find your way to a private cottage on Lake Joseph for an invitation-only JazzAge waterside reception. Join us to enjoy live music, conversation, and the Muskoka atmosphere as evening begins to settle over the lake.
Proceeds support a $2.5 million surgical suite upgrade at the West Parry Sound Health Centre in Parry Sound. The impact of this work extends across the West Parry Sound region, supporting advanced health care for everyone who lives, works, cottages and camps in the region, as well as those who return seasonally and contribute in many ways.

These boats bring back memories for anyone who grew up spending summers on Georgian Bay or in Muskoka. Watching these antique craft glide across the lake on a summer afternoon was part of life on the water in the 50s, 60s, and 70s. “My parents bought our 1946 Chris Craft Sportsman from a former hockey player from Detroit in the early 60s,” says the Chris’s captain. “Legend has it he named the boat after his girlfriend and we still call it ‘Suzie.’”
