À 23 h 27 min 20 sec (UTC) le 23 décembre 2024, Yoann Richomme a passé le mythique cap Horn en tête de la 10e édition du Vendée Globe. Le « Horn », c’est le dernier des trois grands caps de ce tour du monde.

Le skipper de l’IMOCA Paprec Arkéa pulvérise ainsi le temps d’Armel Le Cleac’h sur le Vendée Globe 2016 (47 j 00 h 34 min 46 s) et établit un nouveau temps de référence entre Les Sables d’Olonne et le cap Horn : 43 j 11 h 25 min 20 s, soit 3 j 13 h 9 min et 26 s de moins. Il s’octroie dans le même temps le record du tronçon Leeuwin – Horn, en 13 j 09 h 13 min 43 s.

En dépassant la longitude de la pointe la plus australe de l’Amérique du Sud à 23 h 36 min 50 sec (UTC), Charlie Dalin lui succédait de seulement 9 min et 30 s ! Du jamais-vu sur un Vendée Globe (1 h 20 séparait François Gabart d’Armel Le Cleac’h en 2012). Le temps de passage du skipper de MACIF Santé Prévoyance au cap Horn est de 43 j 11 h 34 min 50 s.
