 Innisfil, Ontario’s Rusty Wyatt has capped off an extraordinary rookie season in the 2024 F1H2O UIM World Championship, securing 2nd place overall in the series standings and earning the prestigious Rookie of the Year title.

Representing Team Sharjah, Wyatt’s talent propelled him to an unforgettable debut season, which included a remarkable 3 race wins, 4 podium finishesincluding a stunning victory in his very first race—becoming the first Canadian and the first UIM rookie to win their debut race in the championship’s history.

Among his season highlights was an incredible clean sweep in Sardinia, Italy, where Wyatt dominated the weekend, taking first place in qualifying, the sprint race, and the final.

The season finale at the Grand Prix of Sharjah,United Arab Emirates was a testament to Wyatt’s resilience. After a testing incident earlier in the week put him in the hospital for several days, Wyatt remained headstrong and determined to compete. Challenges in qualifying and the sprint races placed him P10 for the final, but Wyatt wasted no time. In just a lap and a half, he climbed to 3rd place, holding his position to secure Driver of the Day honors and lock in his 2nd place finish in the championship.

“Winning my debut race set the tone for the season, but this year has been about pushing through every challenge and giving it everything we’ve got,” Wyatt said. “The Sharjah finale was tough, but the team came together, and I’m proud of what we accomplished. Finishing 2nd in the championship and earning Rookie of the Year is something I’ll never forget.”

In a major announcement, Team Sharjah has confirmed the extension of Wyatt’s contract for multiple years.  Ahmed Al-Hosani, General Manager of Sharjah International Marine Sports Club, and Scott Gillman, Team Manager, emphasized their confidence in Wyatt, sharing their enthusiasm for his continued partnership with the team.
