Our Trip to boot in Dusseldorf is Getting Closer

June 12, 2025

Details are firming up and the OnBoard Adventure to Dusseldorf is taking shape.  Many of you responded positively to our initial proposal so we are getting specific about planning and prices.

Just to recap: Next January when you miss boating the most, we will head to Dusseldorf as special guests at the boot show, “the world’s largest indoor boat show”.  Here’s the draft itinerary (all in 2026!! – lots of time to plan):

Custom plan your trip our licensed travel agency, Voyage LM in Montreal. Once you’re in Europe, take as long as you like – go skiing in the Alps, tour Rome or grab some sun in the Canaries. Or whatever you choose.

Jan 17: welcome dinner in a Dusseldorf Altstadt bierkellar including flowing altbier and Sauerbraten.  4-star hotel downtown.

Jan 18: go to the boot (always lower case, not sure why!) boat show. This is a very large show taking up 16 buildings! Tickets for 3 days and Tramway tickets will be included. Evening event tba.

Jan 19, 20: go to boot – wear comfy shoes. Special invitations from some high-end builders for close look at some amazing boats. Reception details to come.

Jan 21: trip to nearby Cologne by train) – 1st class ticket. Germany’s famous  largest cathedral, Rhine Walk, stunning architecture, lunch etc etc.

Jan 22: take train to Frankfurt then coach to Giebelstadt for lunch and scenery tour followed by hosted visit to Bavaria Yachts, Germany’s huge power and sail building facility.

Jan 23: head from Frankfurt to home or wherever you like.

The cost will be roughly $2k per person double including* hotels, show, trains, coaches, tickets, breakfasts, some meals and endless fun all to be confirmed in the next months (plus your flights, which will depend on your custom plans).   *still in the planning stage

If this sounds like a great way to escape next Jan/Feb, please indicate your serious interest by email at onboard@kerrwil.com and put ‘boot’ in the subject line.  If there’s 20-30 or so keen boater/travelers, we will firm up the details and start issuing tickets. See you in Dusseldorf.

The Best of Two Worlds

By Mathew Channer

Interior British Columbia might not be as famous for recreational boating as Canada’s Great Lakes, yet it is no less a world-class boating destination. The mountains offer their own flavour of marine adventure with their series of long, deep ribbon lakes, and there is perhaps no area that embodies this more uniquely than the iconic Okanagan basin in southern B.C. One could be forgiven for assuming this valley was purpose-built for nautical fun, with a few delightful perks thrown in to make the area entirely irresistible (wine-tasting, anyone?).
