New CL Yachts CLX96 sea trials

Last month, CL Yachts new CLX96 underwent her first sea trial reaching a top speed between 24 and 25 knots under full load with weight added to simulate a tender and on board equipment. The new model is first in a series that the company calls a “luxury performance sea activity vessel.”

Award Winning

The CLX96 measures 96’9” (29.5 m) with a 24’ (7.32 m) beam and a draft of 5’4” (1.62 m). She displaces 191,000 lbs. (87,000 kg) fully loaded. She carries 4,100 gallons (15,520 L) of fuel and 500 gallons (1,890 L) of freshwater. Power is twin 1900-hp Caterpillar C32 engines and she has two 45kW Kohler generators. She has a choice of plans for the accommodations deck.

The CLX96 is a departure from other models in the CL line and she’s been recognized, winning a bronze medal in the A’ Design Award competition in 2021, first place in the Concept Under 40 Meters category at the International Yacht & Aviation Awards and winner in the Transportation Design class in the Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design presents the Good Design Awards.

Portuguese BridgeForward of the Sky Lounge, the Terrazza Portoghese offers an open area with movable chaise lounges for private sunbathing The circular lounge in the bow can be lowered to create a large sunbathing area.

Design Highlights

On her upper level, the CLX96’s Sky Deck has abundant seating and entertaining amenities including an outdoor grill, refrigerator and icemaker. In the enclosed Sky Lounge, aft windows can be opened transforming the entire area into a single entertainment zones.

The foredeck has circular seating around a sectional table that can be lowered with large sunpads outboard on each side. In the bow, there are twin windlasses and bollards with a full complement of ground tackle.

Flying BridgeThe grill is all the way aft on the flying bridge so as not to introduce smoke and fumes to the lounging area.

“Our captain reports that the boat handled well and was very responsive to the helm. Two thrusters at the bow and stern provided a much higher level of confidence when docking. Thanks to her stabilization options, including a Quick MC56 gyrostabilizer and Sidepower fins, she is very steady in a seaway as well,” says CL Yachts director Martin Lo.

The CLX96 is currently out of the water for final fitting. More sea trials will be conducted prior to the motoryacht’s Asia debut next spring in Hong Kong. Her international unveiling is planned for the 2022 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in October.
