Kadey Krogen Files for Bankruptcy
July 23, 2026
Kadey-Krogen Yachts officially filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy on July 6, 2026, along with its recently acquired sister brand, American Tug. In the same genre as Grand Banks, the name Kadey-Krogen has represented the pinnacle of rugged, offshore, full-displacement trawlers for nearly 50 years. Founded in 1976 by naval architect James Krogen and partner Art Kadey Kadey-Krogen specialized in bluewater trawler yachts built for long offshore passages, coastal cruising, and extended liveaboard use.
The brand built nearly 700 yachts; models range from 36 to 64 feet with many Canadian owners in BC and the Great Lakes area. While there were no franchised dealers in Canada Canadian owners chose the boat through brokerage and via US-based dealers.
The RCR Yachts newsletter summarized the situation – ‘their loss means fewer choices for buyers of new boats. Trawler designs remain the most popular vessels for doing the Loop, but the fleet is becoming a lot older.’
