Royal Victoria Yacht Club will race, Wildcat ll in the 2017 International Six Metre World Championship hosted by the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club from September 15 to the 21st.
Royal Victoria Yacht Club has chartered Rainer Muller’s yacht Wildcat ll and have put together a team to compete in the international Six Metre World Championship. The five-member team is made up of Alex Fox, Fraser McMillan, Aidan Koster, Jeff Eckard and Dave Richardson. They will compete in the Open Division against multiple world and current European Champion, SUI 77, Junior, as it defends its title. Also coming to Vancouver to defend its title among the Classic yachts is US 83, Llanoria. Llanoria’s performance since her restoration at Jespersen Boatbuilders, located on Vancouver Island, has been impressive! Llanoria is not only the current 6mR World Champion, but also the current European Champion, as well as the winner of the 2016 North American Championships in San Francisco. To add to the excitement, Llanoria’s crew in Vancouver will be all female.
We caught up with the team on September 31st as they installed the mast and rigged the boat. Once the boat was readied it was time for a shakedown cruise. Next, begins the long list of things to be done before the regatta.
Sheer elegance and performance of the “Sixes” has sustained the international 6 m class for over 100 years. In 1908, they were chosen as an Olympic class.
The International Six Metre World Championship is a biennial international sailing regatta in the Six Metre Class organized by the International Six Meter Association. The principal trophy is the Six Metre World Cup. This year for the very first time Vancouver and the Royal Vancouver yacht club will proudly host the first World Cup to be held in Canada.
