This year’s regatta, Penobscot PHRF, is slightly different from past years. They’ll be racing from Rockport to Belfast and back in a PHRF format (instead of pursuit). Event organizers are excited to have Maine sailer and sailmaker Win Fowler as their PRO, and Rockport Marine is hosting the skippers’ meeting and awards ceremony. Also note this year’s special wooden boat division.

Sally Helme, of Newport, RI and publisher of Bonnier Corp.’s Cruising World and Sailing World magazines, has been honoured with the 2015 Leadership in Women’s Sailing Award. Presented by National Women’s Sailing Association (NWSA) and Boat Owners Association of The United States (BoatUS), the honour recognizes an individual with a record of achievement in inspiring, educating, and enriching the lives of women through sailing.
Quite a number of my friends, particularly those on the feminine side, not only care about the environment, but they want to make a statement. They want to live a great life while respecting the world we live in, and I think the Greenline 33 Hybrid is a very appealing way to make that statement.

Lunenburg, Nova Scotia’s Class Afloat has established the Class Afloat ‘Young Sailor Scholarship’ to assist two students – endorsed by their sailing school, sail training program or yacht club – to participate in an extraordinary educational experience — attending high school while ocean sailing aboard a majestic square-rigged tall ship.
Class Afloat offers young people a unique journey of education and personal discovery. For nine months, students live, study and sail aboard The Sørlandet, a fully restored 210 foot 1927 Class ‘A’ square-rigged tall ship.

Seemingly part sailboat and part spaceship, the new Jeanneau Yachts 55 just busted through the boundaries of traditional yacht design. I couldn’t take my eyes off the bubble hardtop that met me at the dock and I stepped aboard with trepidation. A few hours later, I was planning how to spend my not-yet-won lottery winnings.

Over the past seven decades, Ontario’s marina industry has developed alongside some of Canada’s largest freshwater lakes. Boaters have been able to enjoy the beautiful scenery and create lasting memories on the water, with certain marinas dating back to the 1960s. As we reflect on this rich history, we can begin to see trends in how our footprint may have had an effect on the environment, in not-so-positive ways. However, by embracing innovative solutions and adopting sustainable practices, both marinas and boaters hold the key to preserving and enhancing the quality of our lakes and marine life for generations to come.
