You’re invited! Speaker Series – Sandra and Chris from Go Thataway

Chris Newton and Sandra Burkholder

Feb 8, 2024

Join YouTubers Chris Newton and Sandra Burkholder, who graduated from our Boating 2/3 course in 2022, as they do the Loop and share practical tips on boating in US waters.

Thursday, Feburary 22nd 2024 at 7:00 p.m.

Chris and Sandra started America’s Great Loop in July 2023, departing from Midland, Ontario. Join them as they share how much they’ve enjoyed navigating about half of the 6,000 miles of North America’s inland waterways. In addition, they share legal responsibilities unique to Canadians entering the US on a boat, from the basics of immigration and taxation for the humans aboard, and the paperwork and regulations the US requires for recreational marine vessels.

Chris and Sandra have a history of meandering off the beaten path in life. They built the first permitted earthship in BC in 2012- a house built of used tires and pop cans. At the same time they converted a van to run on waste vegetable oil and did a land version of America’s Great Loop.

Buying a boat and undertaking a year long adventure along the 6,000 miles of North America’s inland waterways, didn’t surprise any of their family and friends! Chris is an engineer and Sandra has experience in journalism, communications and business consulting.

Bennington 22 MSB

If you’ve already had firsthand experience with a pontoon, you will easily understand the appeal of the Bennington 22 MSB. But if you haven’t, let’s start by reviewing a few of the reasons why pontoon boats have become top sellers in markets across North America.

Pontoon boats began in the early 1950s as basically four steel drums lashed to a frame. They were not unlike the log rafts of ancient cultures and not much more sophisticated at first.

The Best of Two Worlds

By Mathew Channer

Interior British Columbia might not be as famous for recreational boating as Canada’s Great Lakes, yet it is no less a world-class boating destination. The mountains offer their own flavour of marine adventure with their series of long, deep ribbon lakes, and there is perhaps no area that embodies this more uniquely than the iconic Okanagan basin in southern B.C. One could be forgiven for assuming this valley was purpose-built for nautical fun, with a few delightful perks thrown in to make the area entirely irresistible (wine-tasting, anyone?).
