What Plan? Your Plan…..Strategic Priority #3 – Volunteers

The 2016-2020 Strategic Plan lists five key Priorities and Volunteers are one of the five. There are 3 Goals outlined in this section of the Plan. Even though coordinated efforts to further the priority have been slow, in particular on the 3rd goal of “enhancing the volunteer experience”, there is evidence this goal is being worked on.
Development of volunteers:
• Cross-country tour being developed to deliver in-person training for instructors using new instructor tool kit.
• A joint Education and Membership meeting was held in Toronto in March, so these key groups of volunteers could share information, discuss issues and develop better ways to work together.
Training of volunteers:
• Video clips are being developed to help volunteers understand how to use new IT system when it’s launched
Recognition & Reward of volunteers:
• At the 2019 National Conference, winners of National awards, along with a guest, will have their travel and accommodation paid for by National! It’s hoped that the volunteer’s Squadron and/or District will pay the registration cost to truly make this a special moment.
• At District AGMs, the Chief Commander recognized life members, that received merit marks for milestone years exceeding 20 years, with a pin and a thank you for continuing to dedicate their time and talent to CPS-ECP
• Squadrons and Districts are sharing their ideas – appreciation dinners and gift cards to say thank you, gas card draw or other prize to reward someone for attending a District meeting, reduced or no cost for courses/seminars and materials to thank volunteers and encourage them to take more boating education, anniversary events to celebrate the many years a Squadron has served their boating community, etc.
