National Volunteer Week 2026

April 23, 2026

In 2025, CanBoat / NautiSavoir awarded six hundred ninety-five (695) Volunteer Certificates (Merit Marks). Since each certificate accounts for at least 20 hours of work, the organization could count 13,900 hours towards promoting boating safety. We also know that many volunteers contribute much more than twenty hours to support our mission.

Some volunteers have reached their twentieth year of service and are now lifetime members of CanBoat / NautiSavoir. This year, several volunteers received their first certificate. We can take heart in this indication that the next generation is stepping up. Additionally, some volunteers contributed fewer than 20 hours, which does not qualify them for a certificate. These volunteers and their hours also contribute to serving the mission.

The theme for this year’s National Volunteer Week is “Volunteers Make Waves.” One of those waves is CanBoat / NautiSavoir.

Congratulations and heartfelt thanks to all our volunteers.

Sincerely,
Lise Blais Huot, SN
Chair of the Board

Pontoon boats began in the early 1950s as basically four steel drums lashed to a frame. They were not unlike the log rafts of ancient cultures and not much more sophisticated at first.

The Best of Two Worlds

By Mathew Channer

Interior British Columbia might not be as famous for recreational boating as Canada’s Great Lakes, yet it is no less a world-class boating destination. The mountains offer their own flavour of marine adventure with their series of long, deep ribbon lakes, and there is perhaps no area that embodies this more uniquely than the iconic Okanagan basin in southern B.C. One could be forgiven for assuming this valley was purpose-built for nautical fun, with a few delightful perks thrown in to make the area entirely irresistible (wine-tasting, anyone?).
