Bronte Outer Harbour Marina – we welcome news from all across Canada. Photo credit: John Morris

October 23, 2025

Now that summer’s wrapped up and things have calmed down a bit, I’d like to take a moment to revisit our goals here at OnBoard and let you know how much we need your input.

OnBoard’s purpose is to bring the boaters of Canada together. It’s a community that’s slightly like herding the proverbial cats – different boats, different kinds of boats from personal watercraft to runabouts to gracious power cruisers, from hot racing machines to sailing yachts and lots more in between.

Then there’s the huge geography that comes with being Canadian. We regularly cover boating from the Gulf Islands to Chester NS with stops along the way in Muskoka, Kelowna, Lake of the Woods, Hamilton Harbour and a hundred other marinas, sailing clubs and lakeside docks. For a country of just 41 million people, there are a lot of boats in a huge variety of places.

We can say, with suitable modesty, that we are the ONLY online publication that covers the Canadian power and sail spectrum. We publish pretty much exclusively stories from Canada or about Canadians boating elsewhere.

You have a role to play because we cannot cover all this without your input. Please contribute to our digests with stories from your corner. Here’s what you can send – a few examples:

  • Reports on your power boat rendezvous
  • Recipes and hospitality ideas
  • Photos of wonderful boat moments
  • Regatta news and class association updates
  • The story of your boat, your friends, your adventures, your dock
  • Favorite anchorages and boater eateries
  • DIY idea and inquiries – we will find the experts to answer your questions
  • Brilliant boating tips
  • Etc

That’s a start. You can reach us right here:

And please add to our network by inviting your friends and crew to subscribe. It’s easy and it’s FREE!  Just send them this button:

We think covering Canadian boating is a fabulous undertaking but we cannot do it without you. You’re invited to climb OnBoard all year long.

Bennington 22 MSB

By Andy Adams

If you’ve already had firsthand experience with a pontoon, you will easily understand the appeal of the Bennington 22 MSB. But if you haven’t, let’s start by reviewing a few of the reasons why pontoon boats have become top sellers in markets across North America.

Pontoon boats began in the early 1950s as basically four steel drums lashed to a frame. They were not unlike the log rafts of ancient cultures and not much more sophisticated at first.

The Best of Two Worlds

By Mathew Channer

Interior British Columbia might not be as famous for recreational boating as Canada’s Great Lakes, yet it is no less a world-class boating destination. The mountains offer their own flavour of marine adventure with their series of long, deep ribbon lakes, and there is perhaps no area that embodies this more uniquely than the iconic Okanagan basin in southern B.C. One could be forgiven for assuming this valley was purpose-built for nautical fun, with a few delightful perks thrown in to make the area entirely irresistible (wine-tasting, anyone?).
