The 2013 Mobility Cup is set to be held in Nova Scotia at the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron.  Canada’s national regatta for sailors with disabilities takes place from August 27th to the 30th, with arrival and practice taking place from August 24th to the 26th. Vancouver’s Sam Sullivan founded the Mobility Cup in 1991 by inviting key individuals from other cities to take part in a sailing regatta, whether they had ever sailed before or not, in an effort to promote and grow the sport of disabled sailing.

Visitors to Saanich Inlet will find a dramatic new Mill Bay Marina on the site of the old marina on the inlet’s western shore. The old wooden pilings and floats have been replaced by steel pilings, concrete floats, 91 wide permanent berths for boats to 55’, and 700’ of transient moorage for vessels to 200’, all protected by a state-of-the-art floating breakwater.

The new marina, on the edge of the Gulf Islands, also has a fuel dock (gas and diesel), while a dockside bistro called Bridgemans and a marine store are set to open this spring.

Martin 242 Fleet One Vancouver hosts the class’s 2012 North American Championship September 21-23 on English Bay. The regatta has been expanded to three days to increase competitiveness and respect the distance travelled by racers from Vancouver Island, Alberta, Oregon and California.

A BC design, the M242 is a highly competitive class that maintains strong fleets on the West Coast. Over 300 boats have been built since 1981 and are many are still competitive today.

Transformational Refitting: A New Way to Look at Yacht Purchase

Platinum Marine announces the unveiling of their new refit project, “encore”, 120’ Crescent, at the 2013 Seattle Boat Show. The luxury yacht was refurbished to new construction levels through Platinum’s Transformational Refit program.

The transformation included the addition of an upper level, modernized exterior styling, hull lengthening, and the addition of a bulbous bow. The interior of the new tri-level vessel was removed and replaced with a professionally designed interior with up-to-date amenities such as a state-of-the-art entertainment system, technically advanced lighting systems, and chef’s galley. Mechanical, electronic, and yacht management systems have been either significantly upgraded or replaced throughout the vessel. Essentially the encore is a new yacht in appearance and operation, without the cost of a newly constructed vessel. The encore is listed for sale by Platinum Marine for $6,995,000.

Bayfield Marine Turns 40 with Big April Events

Ron and Pat Reder started out in October 1984 across the road from where they are right now on the Bayfield River in Bayfield ON. The store front was about 10 x 20 and the rest of that side of the building was a stock room, wood finishing room, then behind that was more back stock and the lunchroom. Expanding every few years for the store front, then moving over to this new building five years ago, this year with Adam, Shelley, and Holly are carrying on the business.
