WHEN? August 5th from 4:00 to 8:00 + WHERE? The North Side of Rous Island.   HOW? Bring your boat or find a boating friend   WHAT? Tie up together for a RAFT UP PARTY.  We will have a few moorings in place but the idea is that only one of us will tie to the mooring.  Then the next person ties up to the first person and the next boat to them and so on.  It’s a great way to meet new people and we all know that BOATERS ARE THE FRIENDLIEST PEOPLE ALIVE!  If you see someone you don’t know, introduce yourself!   LIVE MUSIC?  Yep!  We will have a barge set up and we have two groups coming to play for us starting at 4:00   FOOD?  You betcha!  It won’t be fancy – some burgers, dogs, water and soda    WHY? Because WE LOVE BOATING!  And let’s face it… everybody loves a good party.   WHAT IF IT’s RAINING?  Good question.  If it’s a drizzle we will carry on but if it’s actually raining we will have to cancel and try again next year.  If you’re not sure, check back here at this website.  I’ll update with any news.

The 2013 First 36.7 North American Championship (NAC) Organizing committee is pleased to announce that registration is now open for the 2013 First 36.7 NAC.  

Scheduled for September 5-8, 2013 and hosted at the Belmont Station of Chicago Yacht Club (CYC), the Notice of Race (NOR) and registration instructions are located at Yacht Scoring. The entry fee includes dockage during the event and access to all parties for the skipper and up to eight crew members.  Be sure to get your entry in early as there are incentives for early registration!

The National Sailing Center & Hall of Fame (NSHOF) has announced the nine sailors who will make up its 2012 class of inductees into the National Sailing Hall of Fame. Following a two-month period this spring during which sailors from all corners of the country nominated their choice for induction, a selection committee – made up of representatives from the national governing body, the sailing media, the sailing industry, community sailing, a maritime museum, NSHOF founding yacht clubs and the 2011 class of inductees – reviewed the broad spectrum of nominations.

We’ve written previously suggesting that NOW is the good time to do all those maintenance items that we all usually leave to spring-time. The more boaters can get done before the good weather, the easier and less frustrating pre-season commissioning will be. Ladysmith Maritime Centre Opens

With congratulatory speeches, a navy brass band and a First Nations welcoming circle, the Ladysmith Maritime Society recently opened its new dockside Reception Centre. After a number of speakers advanced the welcoming nature of the facility for visiting boaters, local mariners and First Nations neighbours, the proposal to rename it officially a Welcoming Centre was appreciated the large and enthusiastic crowd. Bayfield Marine Turns 40 with Big April Events

Ron and Pat Reder started out in October 1984 across the road from where they are right now on the Bayfield River in Bayfield ON. The store front was about 10 x 20 and the rest of that side of the building was a stock room, wood finishing room, then behind that was more back stock and the lunchroom. Expanding every few years for the store front, then moving over to this new building five years ago, this year with Adam, Shelley, and Holly are carrying on the business.
