Easter Seals Waves Regatta

This year’s charity sailing event will feature one weekend of competitive Keelboat and Dinghy racing in English Bay as well as the recreational Easter Seals Cup race. Almost 200 boats participated last year and this year event organizers are hoping for close to 300 boats to take part. The Regatta is open to the following classes:

ORC Club – Club 420
PHRF BC – 29er
PHRF NW – Laser
Cal 20 – Laser Radial
Dragon – Laser 4.7
Martin 242 – Optimist
Melges 24 – Optimist Green
Star – Tasar

The post race festivities offer a chance for all participants to kick back and relax after the first full day of racing. Invite your crew and family to enjoy our barbecue while listening to live music, peruse our incredible silent auction and then cap it off with some great awards and prizing. Be sure to bring the kids as the festivities will also feature a bouncy castle and other great kid’s activities.

No boat? No problem! Experience the thrill of sailing, being a part of a crew, as well as the post race festivities by sponsoring a boat and/or skipper. There are 3 levels to choose from; $500, $1000 and $1500, each with their own benefits and charitable tax receipt.

All funds raised will help to keep the ‘doors open’ at Easter Seals House Vancouver. The house is one of three Easter Seals houses in BC. The Vancouver house provides a comfortable and affordable place for families and their children to stay while they receive medical treatment and diagnosis at Vancouver. Martin 242 Fleet One Vancouver hosts the class’s 2012 North American Championship September 21-23 on English Bay. The regatta has been expanded to three days to increase competitiveness and respect the distance travelled by racers from Vancouver Island, Alberta, Oregon and California.

A BC design, the M242 is a highly competitive class that maintains strong fleets on the West Coast. Over 300 boats have been built since 1981 and are many are still competitive today.

Sail-In Cinema™ Movies Announced For August 2013

Canada’s floating movie experience, Sail-In Cinema™ is back at the water’s edge with a line up of 1980s favourites chosen by the public; the theme for this year’s movies is ‘Heroes of the Silver Screen.’ For three August nights, Toronto’s Sugar Beach will be transformed into the city’s largest outdoor theatre where the audience watch movies on a two-sided screen anchored to a barge on Lake Ontario.  This year’s movie line up includes:

In the last few months Bruce Kirby, the Canadian designer of the Laser sailboat, the world’s most successful racing dinghy ever, and the one-design boat that powers arguably the largest and most significant class in racing, has revealed that for some time, he has not been paid the royalties owed to him by the builders who had contracts to build Kirby’s design. Yet, the authorities in the Laser class association with the apparent cooperation of ISAF, the International Sailing Federation have continued to issue official plaques to these unauthorized Laser boats. Bayfield Marine Turns 40 with Big April Events

Ron and Pat Reder started out in October 1984 across the road from where they are right now on the Bayfield River in Bayfield ON. The store front was about 10 x 20 and the rest of that side of the building was a stock room, wood finishing room, then behind that was more back stock and the lunchroom. Expanding every few years for the store front, then moving over to this new building five years ago, this year with Adam, Shelley, and Holly are carrying on the business.
