Large-Scale Outdoor Exhibition Explores Toronto’s Harbour

Twenty-five boats and close to 60 people attended the North Pacific Yacht Owners Rendezvous 2012 September 9-11 at Telegraph Harbour Marina. Tips, ideas and stories were enthusiastically shared regardless of whether guests were veteran cruisers or new to North Pacific. A number of industry suppliers stepped forward as sponsors and donors to support the event.

Victoria’s Maritime Museum of British Columbia, is hosting the 9th Annual Massive Maritime Garage Sale on Saturday April 21 at Ogden Point, Pier A, Dallas Rd, 0900 to 1300 hours. Co-sponsored by the City of Victoria and CFB Esquimalt, the event is open to vendors who can rent a table for $35.00 and the event has a $5.00 entrance fee for adults but kids are free. Parking is free and is abundant. Expected to be offered on sale are small craft of all kinds, canoes, kayaks, dinghies, fishing equipment, crab and prawn traps, and marine and nautical gear of all kinds. Proceeds go towards the Museums Special Exhibition

Seattle’s 34th annual Lake Union Boats Afloat Show begins Wednesday, September 12 and continues through Sunday, September 16, 2012. The show is open from 11 am to 7 pm weekdays and 10 am to 6 pm weekends.

More than 50 brands of yachts and 50 brokers and dealers from Washington, Oregon, California, Florida, and British Columbia will display their yachts. Yachts represented will include Ocean Alexander, Selene, Westport, Kadey-Krogen, American Tug, Regal, Jeanneau, Navigator, Hunter, Catalina, Riviera, Sea Ray and many more.

Station 29 is sponsored by the Ladysmith and District Marine Rescue Society and provides marine search and rescue services for the northern section of the Gulf Islands, including the islands and waters between Dodd Narrows to the north and Sansum Narrows to the south. The 24 active members provide 24/7 response for marine emergencies as well as community education and public safety services. Their current response vessel is a 25’ Zodiac Hurricane RIB and the society is currently fundraising to purchase a new response vessel in 2014. This vessel, to be built on Vancouver Island, will greatly enhance operational and medical first aid responsiveness.

Martin 242 Fleet One Vancouver hosts the class’s 2012 North American Championship September 21-23 on English Bay. The regatta has been expanded to three days to increase competitiveness and respect the distance travelled by racers from Vancouver Island, Alberta, Oregon and California.

A BC design, the M242 is a highly competitive class that maintains strong fleets on the West Coast. Over 300 boats have been built since 1981 and are many are still competitive today.
