Large-Scale Outdoor Exhibition Explores Toronto’s Harbour

Uncharted Waters: Toronto’s Enigmatic Harbour is opening on Thursday, June 21, 2012.

Harbourfront Centre is proud to announce the opening of Uncharted Waters: Toronto’s Enigmatic Harbour presented with the assistance of the Toronto Port Authority. This outdoor exhibition, held in Canada’s biggest outdoor exhibition space, features work by six of the nation’s premier artists exploring the various facets of Canada’s largest inland port.

With access to areas normally off-limits along Toronto’s waterfront, Dianne Davis, Johan Hallberg-Campbell, Jesse Louttit, Eamon Mac Mahon, Joanne Ratajczak and Clare Samuel captured unique glimpses into the people, places, landscapes and industries along the harbour. Their photographs offer new perspectives on the complexity and variety of activities and environments occurring at our water’s edge, and uncover the true value of this environmental and cultural resource.

Uncharted Waters: Toronto’s Enigmatic Harbour opens to the public on Thursday, June 21, 2012 and will run through June, 2013. More information is available at harbourfrontcentre.com/visualarts/unchartedwaters

Mosquito Creek Marina’s 6th annual Boat Show at the Creek promises to bring at least 150 power and sailboats to the North Shore facility. Sponsored by the BC Yacht Brokers Association, this is the South Coast’s major fall floating boat show. Exhibits also include marine vendors and suppliers “on the water” in booths on a floating platform.

Show features this year include moorage for show-goers who arrive by boat ($25 per day plus special fuel dock rates), dedicated slips for sea-trial use and quiet rooms for broker-client meetings, daily educational seminars on site, children’s activities and canoe races.

Barry Goodyear of Ra Kon Marnie Surveyors in Innisfil, Ontario was telling us about  a boat he recently surveyed. Severe electrical problems prompted the owner to re-wire an accessory. A 6’ length of wire was carefully stripped and even in the middle of the insulated area, there was the tell-tale green “fuzz” corrosion that results from saltwater exposure.

The boat had sunk in saltwater. Years later, the damage was coming to light.

Easter Seals Waves Regatta

National Bank Easter Seals Waves Regatta set to go June 34, 24 at Royal Vancouver Yacht Club

This year’s charity sailing event will feature one weekend of competitive Keelboat and Dinghy racing in English Bay as well as the recreational Easter Seals Cup race. Almost 200 boats participated last year and this year event organizers are hoping for close to 300 boats to take part. The post race festivities offer a chance for all participants to kick back and relax after the first full day of racing.

Graves, president of the Brunswick Boat Group, Skyline Marine received congratulations on becoming the first Brunswick Ambassador dealer, the highest dealer certification honor available through the Brunswick Boat Group under their new Brunswick certification program. Skyline was also reaffirmed as exclusively representing Sea Ray and Hatteras boats.
