Cathy Shaw Wins Canadian Womens Keelboat Championships

Congratulations to Cathy Shaw from the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron for capturing the 2013 Canadian Women’s Keelboat Championship. The championship was hosted by the Bedford Basin Yacht Club and the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron and held at RNSYS.

The 3 day Championship – sailed in J22s – saw 40 women from Nova Scotia, British Columbia, Ontario and Manitoba. Light breeze and sunny skies on Sunday saw the last of 9 races with the top three line up going to Cathy Shaw and team from RNSYS, 2nd place to Michele Cimon of Nepean Yacht Club and her team, and 3rd to Karen Fowler and team from BBYC.

The Sail Canada Women’s Keelboat Championships are held annualy at a member club. The venue rotates around the country and is selected based on availability of a fleet of one design keelboats for use by competitors.

Bayfield Marine Turns 40 with Big April Events

Ron and Pat Reder started out in October 1984 across the road from where they are right now on the Bayfield River in Bayfield ON. The store front was about 10 x 20 and the rest of that side of the building was a stock room, wood finishing room, then behind that was more back stock and the lunchroom. Expanding every few years for the store front, then moving over to this new building five years ago, this year with Adam, Shelley, and Holly are carrying on the business.
