The Innisfil local made history last year, becoming the first Canadian to win a UIM Formula One H20 Grand Prix and earning 2024 Rookie of the Year. CB Editor Mathew Channer talks to Rusty about performance mindset, politics, representing Canada, and training in the sauna.

You travel all around the world racing, how does it feel to be back home in Canada, even if it’s just for a few weeks?

It’s all around the world for sure! We enjoy being in the UAE for the winter but also love doing the Canadian things back home. I’m an avid snowmobiler. We’re pretty blessed where we’re from, and we’re living the Canadian life this winter. We just went through a crazy ice-storm, so that’s been interesting with all the power outages!

Spotted! Canadian Boating in Antigua & Barbuda

I wore my Canadian Boating cap everywhere I went in Antigua, for the sun, not for the shout-outs. But I sure received a lot of them.

Antigua Sailing Week is an international regatta that draws sailors of every level and spectators from all over the world. Yet I couldn’t walk across a room without being hailed by a Canadian who was as excited to see my cap as they were to see the racing. I met many who were on their 3rd, 4th and 5th visit.
