Gear: Power Mismatch? No Problem!

YQ230 Intelligent Y Adapter from Hubbell Marine

July 25, 2024

Owners who enjoy exploring new marinas sometimes face a power pedestal that doesn’t match their boat’s electrical needs. The YQ230 Intelligent Y Adapter from Hubbell Marine is the solution for those times. It safely connects a 50A, 125/250V AC vessel to a dual 30A, 125V AC source, without any loss of onboard electrical functionality.

The YQ230 Intelligent Y Adapter’s intelligent onboard circuitry automatically checks the polarity of the dockside receptacles, and that both 30A plugs are fully engaged and opposite phased. An integrated power indicator light confirms safe operation, while a built-in safety feature automatically shuts off power transmission if an incorrect wiring condition is detected. Additionally, should one of the 30A plugs not be fully engaged, or come loose while the other is connected, the device automatically cuts off power; this prevents the disengaged plug from becoming live.

Environmentally sealed against humidity, salt, fog and rain, the device has a UV-resistant, high-impact housing. Sealing grommets keep moisture out, cord clamps prevent strain on terminals and a safety indicator light lets users know when power is on. The suggested retail price for the Hubbell Marine YQ230 Intelligent Y Adapter is $699.

Since then we’ve repowered, installed Starlink, and retired from work. Now, with confidence in our engine and our connectivity and more time to sail, we were Superior-ready.
