Cool Your Jets
May 9, 2024
During one of the unexpected summer-like days we have recently down by the boat, my pal KB started talking to me about Ferrari jet skis. He assured me this was actually a thing and to my amazement, he was sooo right.
When I returned home, I hopped online and sure enough, this is a latest toy for moneyed thrill seekers. There’s an entire line-up of luxury car lookalike small boats – Corvette C7, Bugatti Chiron, Lamborghini SVJ, McLaren, Porsche 911- that have captured the hearts of the Dubai uber-rich. They rent for hundreds an hour and cost as much as a real car to purchase outright. They have a steering wheel, gas pedal and a gear selector just like a real car, but no brakes similar to a jet ski.
The YouTube videos made me wince because the people driving them seem unconcerned about life jackets or safe handling but make a point of having a crazy fun time. You can watch them buzzing beaches and doing donuts in alligator swamps. Safe? No? Fun? I guess it depends on what you’re after.
In any case, for better or probably for worse it is boating, so I thought I’d bring it to your attention. And guess what, there’s a Canadian dealer, Jet Car Canada, with a website that shows a Mercedes G-Wagon Jet Car (5 Seater) for $84,999 or a Rolls Royce Ghost Jet Car for $79,999, Let’s be clear – we are not recommending this, just reporting.
Are luxury Ferrari jet-boats a good idea? I’ll let you decide but don’t be shocked if you suddenly see hot cars screaming by on Okanogan Lake or Rosseau.
