Preview: Look for Canadian Boating May Issue

Canadian Boating May 2024 has  a great editorial lineup for you.  Associate Editor Allegra Smith-Herriott leads off with a Feature, Boating and the Environment – Shifting Towards Sustainability. This is a reminder as we launch and head out, that we all need to work to protect our waterways and to support initiatives to help reverse the damage we’ve done over the years.

Next, we have a well-researched Technical Feature by boat electrics expert, Mike Wheatstone, that details adding a high-power solar system to a new Lagoon 42. The owners plan to enjoy tranquil anchoring in air-conditioned comfort. See what they have done to achieve independent cruising without a generator or burning more fuel.

Environmentally, sailing catamarans are very interesting and hugely accommodating. You will enjoy Max Shaw’s story of crossing the Atlantic in the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers (ARC) aboard a new Nautitech 44 Open. The boat’s lucky new owners embarked with their three children for their maiden voyage and their first-ever Atlantic crossing.

Looking at the editor’s note from last year, I see I wrote “it can only get better”. At this point, I am not so confident in my year end prediction acumen, but as we roll into the (constrained) holiday season and on to a new year it’s time to be optimistic.

Bayfield Marine Turns 40 with Big April Events

Ron and Pat Reder started out in October 1984 across the road from where they are right now on the Bayfield River in Bayfield ON. The store front was about 10 x 20 and the rest of that side of the building was a stock room, wood finishing room, then behind that was more back stock and the lunchroom. Expanding every few years for the store front, then moving over to this new building five years ago, this year with Adam, Shelley, and Holly are carrying on the business.
