2013 Vancouver Boat Show Extends to BC Family Day

After 12 years at Pacific Yachting magazine, most recently as Publisher, Mark Collett will be joining Canadian Yachting's team to head up the Western Canadian division and develop a truly national Canadian boating magazine.

"Mark's solid experience in both the boating and publishing industries will expand our efforts to provide Canada with the national reach and scope it should have," commented Elizabeth Kerr, Canadian Yachting's publisher.

On July 7th, Buckeye Marine will host Ontario’s only Wake Surf competition at an all new location-Garnet Graham Park in Fenelon Falls. This exciting location is only one of the upgrades to an annual event hosted by Buckeye called Mastercraft’s Big Day Out.

“We are so happy to be offering this premier event in Fenelon Falls. This great new location and the addition of a rock climbing wall, paddle boarding, and live entertainment are sure to add to the excitement!” states Carly Poole, marketing co-ordinator for Buckeye.

Hundreds of pirates – and their parents – gathered at yacht clubs in Vancouver, Victoria and Kelowna in June for this year’s Boat for Hope. Hosted by Variety – the Children’s Charity, Boat for Hope offers children who have special needs and their families a fun, easy day of on-water pirating adventures, in which they board boats decked out in pirate gear and crewed by their owners, who truly dive into the spirit of the day.

Vancouver’s Boat for Hope is in its 14th year and staged at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club with extensive support from club members, other yacht clubs and power squadrons. Boat for Hope is now also staged in Ireland and Australia.

Last night, during CYA’s Annual General Meeting, Curtis Florence was appointed CYA’s Rolex Sailor of the Year Award during the Awards Dinner hosted by the Royal Canadian Yachting Club. Curtis’ two sons, Trey (16) and Jordan (12), were present to accept the award on behalf of their father. Curtis was able to make his gracious acceptance speech via SKYPE.

Mosquito Creek Marina’s 6th annual Boat Show at the Creek promises to bring at least 150 power and sailboats to the North Shore facility. Sponsored by the BC Yacht Brokers Association, this is the South Coast’s major fall floating boat show. Exhibits also include marine vendors and suppliers “on the water” in booths on a floating platform.

Show features this year include moorage for show-goers who arrive by boat ($25 per day plus special fuel dock rates), dedicated slips for sea-trial use and quiet rooms for broker-client meetings, daily educational seminars on site, children’s activities and canoe races.
