Nerd notes

Hi Mike,

My name is Sergey (59 y.o.) and I’m cruising on Georgian Bay on Jeanneau SO379 for 7 years (late starter), considering owning a cat on the Caribbean somewhere upon retiring (~5 yrs.)  I see from the picture that your house bank is located somewhere in salon under seat – is it original place or you moved it for bigger space?

There is a duct next to it – is it a vent for batteries or something else?

Hello Sergey,

Thank you for your email and questions.

On our Hunter36 (2005) the factory setup is two batteries using a Off,1,2,all battery switch, for both house and start functions, located in the port cockpit locker. I wanted separate start and house batteries and to increase the house bank capacity (to 4 batteries) for cruising.

The boat also had a slight list to port. To counteract that list I wanted to relocate the house bank to starboard. There was a little used salon locker that would allow me to put the batteries on the starboard side and keep the battery weight low and near the fore/aft balance point. While ABYC would like to see any Lead Acid type battery in a vented or non-living space, these being AGM batteries and not subject to venting under normal conditions, I opted to put them in the salon as being the best compromise. The duct you see is for the factory air conditioning located in the adjacent locker.

Hope this helps and that I answered all your questions,

Mike

I noticed your words in the CYOB digest about boat shows and wondered if you are aware of my online list of boat shows in Canada. This page was added 18 years ago and still gets very few contributions from show organizers (it’s free). Once a month I post a summary to @boatingincanada on twitter, blogs, and facebook. You can also view archives of previous years.

On my website, the birthday cake at the top heralds my 25 years of slave labour, aka labour of love. 😉

The Pursuit S 268 Sport centre console is a do-it-all kind of boat with a solid sense of style. Centre console designs have been developed for the southern blue water sport fishing enthusiasts (and this boat would raise fish with the best of them) but the Pursuit S 268 Sport centre console offers far more utility and enjoyment than just fishing.

Ron and Pat Reder started out in October 1984 across the road from where they are right now on the Bayfield River in Bayfield ON. The store front was about 10 x 20 and the rest of that side of the building was a stock room, wood finishing room, then behind that was more back stock and the lunchroom. Expanding every few years for the store front, then moving over to this new building five years ago, this year with Adam, Shelley, and Holly are carrying on the business.
