Reminder from the National Environmental Committee

Know before you go: if you see a blow, go slow! With the boating season in full swing, it’s important for vessel operators to review Canada’s Marine Mammal Regulations and ensure they know how to legally and safely boat when whales are in the area. See BoatBlue.ca for the joint CPS-ECP and Marine Education and Research Society guide entitled “Marine Mammals and Boaters: Safety and Stewardship”. See also www.SeeABlowGoSlow.org for an overview of Marine Mammal Regulations and best practices to avoid collision.

Know before you go: See a Blow? Go Slow!

With boating season in full swing, it’s important for boaters to know how to operate safely and legally around whales. Before you venture on the ocean, make sure you know Canada’s Marine Mammal Regulations. Not only is it the responsibility of boaters to know the law, it’s also in your best interest: collision with a large whale could lead to serious human injury and material damage.

The CPS-ECP Environmental Committee, in collaboration with the Marine Education and Research Society, has developed a guide entitled “Marine Mammals and Boaters: Safety and Stewardship”. The guide includes the Regulations and provides further information on how to be a responsible boater and participate in the health and conservation of our waterways. Please find the guide here: BoatBlue.ca

Also see www.SeeABlowGoSlow.org for an overview of the Marine Mammal Regulations Regulations and best practices to avoid collision.

Make sure you have a happy and safe boating season by reviewing your knowledge of safe and legal boating practices around marine mammals!
