Apropos Marine Overboard Boarding Ladder

When are you too old to cruise? When you can’t jump four feet off a moving boat onto a dock! With this in mind, Apropos Marine designed a step that can be attached to most sailboat toe-rails, using the hole spacing as the height adjustment – wider spacing of the hooks, higher step. This is not a static dock boarding step to fit under a lifeline gate – but it will serve that function too.

The design is elegantly simple – a non-skid Seaboard plank 18” long, 6” wide and ¾” thick. That’s long enough to stand diagonally facing the dock. Two Seaboard end pieces keep the plank two inches off the hull for toe clearance. The outboard adjusters align with your hull’s surface. The Step is attached to rope like a swing –simple and self-adjusting. The loops at each end have snap shackles that are attached with heavy-duty shackles (included) to the toe-rails. When away from the dock, the Step can be pulled up on deck or detached and stowed.

Pontoon boats began in the early 1950s as basically four steel drums lashed to a frame. They were not unlike the log rafts of ancient cultures and not much more sophisticated at first.

The Best of Two Worlds

By Mathew Channer

Interior British Columbia might not be as famous for recreational boating as Canada’s Great Lakes, yet it is no less a world-class boating destination. The mountains offer their own flavour of marine adventure with their series of long, deep ribbon lakes, and there is perhaps no area that embodies this more uniquely than the iconic Okanagan basin in southern B.C. One could be forgiven for assuming this valley was purpose-built for nautical fun, with a few delightful perks thrown in to make the area entirely irresistible (wine-tasting, anyone?).
