Winterization 411

Winterization

Oct 11, 2018

If the vessel is going to be out of the water during the winter months, ensuring it’s in a climate-controlled storage area or shrink-wrapped are the two best options.

Here are some additional tips for helping you prepare for winter:

1. Close all seacocks.
2. Check rudder shafts for leaks.
3. Ensure bilge pumps are working and not blocked by debris.
4. Check the boat periodically or have the marina do so and report back to the insured.
5. If the boat remains in water that does freeze, a working bubbling system or aerator should be around the boat.

Coverage Note: To be insured for loss or damage resulting from ice or freezing, your watercraft must be winterized by a marina, shipyard or licenced mechanic.
